A tribute to black women excellence.

Anyone who has the good fortune of knowing Virginia Cumberbatch and calling her a friend, knows that when she says “come along with me”, you go. She’s a fierce community activist and is deeply committed to speaking truth to power in the name equity, healing, and celebration of people of color. When she first told me about the Austin Woman Magazine feature, she was struggling with it. Like many black women in the movement, she resisted the pedal stool so many wanted to put her on in Austin and beyond. She wanted the focus to be on the collective strength of so many that were doing the work. And February’s issue of  Austin Woman is a product of her vision and it is beautiful.
